TOEFL Testing Is A
Must For Philippine Nurses!
The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) testing is required before you can get your license in the United States as a registered nurse.
When you submit your application for your work visa, one of the things they will want to know if you did not go to a school with English textbooks, is if you are proficient in the English language.
You must be proficient in the English language - this is a must before you can get a nursing job in the US.
There's nothing to be concern about because you can accomplish this by taking either the IELTS, TOEFL or TOEIC.
International English Language Testing
The IELTS is the International English Language Testing system and it measures the ability to communicate with listening, reading, writing, and speaking. There is a general version and an academic version… you, as an RN, will need the academic version.
This test is all about your writing style, linguistic basics, you ability to read, write, listen and speak in English.
This test is given to you by a single testing expert and should take about two and a half hours. After this time, you will be graded on a scale of 10 to 1 with 10 being an excellent user, 6 as a competent user, and 2 as an intermittent user.

Test of English as a Foreign Language
The TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language) is another English testing system that is computer or paper based.
The internet based one is now the most widely used test. The test consists of a reading, writing, speaking, and listening sections.
The computer based test is scored on a scale from 0 to 300. Each of the four sections is given a total of 30 points, then these are all added together to get the total score. For the computer test you must make 207 and for the written you must make a 540.
Test of English for International Communication
The TOEIC measures the ability of non-native English-speaking nursing candidates. It is most commonly used in Japan, Korea, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
This test will take you two hours to complete and consist of 200 questions. Half of the questions are on listening comprehension and the other half is on reading comprehension.
Each person receives a score from 5 to 495 on each part for a total of 10 to 990. Nurses make a score of 725.
After you have completed and passed one of these tests and the NCLEX then you can apply to the state board of nursing
in which you reside in.
